Roxy Townsend is a designer, artist, and illustrator. She loves to manifest joy, understanding, and magic through her work. She loves food, a good laugh, and meaningful connection with other humans. Roxy graduated with a BFA in Visual Communication (Graphic Design) at the University of Kansas in 2018. She has since worked in advertising, publication, branding and web design.

Roxy is currently available for web design and branding services as well as illustration services.

Experience

Manager of regular marketing material and in-house collateral for a Kansas City restaurant franchise. Built a new website which lead to increased reservations and takeout orders. Maintained website and made regular updates. Designed print menus for each unique dining experience offered as well as marketing initiatives like mailers, coupons, and event deliverables.

Tasked with freshening the dvm360 brand, I worked alongside the team to improve the brand to fit their audience better, which is primarily millenial women. Worked with the team to organize the publication process, and establish a consistent, streamlined workflow. Developed a new visual brand best-fit for their audience, equipped with brand style guides, type and visual asset libraries, and page templates. Additionally crafted web and social media content templates and an asset library. Created graphics for including editorial illustrations and data visualizations.  Crafted conceptual editorial campaigns and maintained visual branding across all platforms for the nation’s top veterinary media company. Maintained social media channels and grew social media presence. Designed all print media for our three publications and custom print projects for nationally recognized ad clients.

Worked alongside my partner, a journalist named Lara Korte, gathered raw data and then produced interactive data visualization graphics utilizing Tableau data visualization software. Explored various topics of publically accessible civic data. As part of the project, my partner and I assisted teaching an undergraduate journalism class at KU in order to teach students how to effectively use data to enhance and story and how to interpret data visually.

Established brand guidelines including a new logo and masthead, page templates, and asset libraries. Created fresh, engaging visuals to complement stories including data visualization, illustrations, and photo illustrations. Managed a staff of page designers, photographers, and illustrators with a focus on maintaining consistent workflow. Collaborated with section editors and reporters to create pages that serve the story best. Crafted conceptual editorial illustrations for special sections of the paper that utilized highly visual storytelling.

Worked alongside a small design staff to produce work both for print and digital. Served many local Kansas City businesses with routine collateral as well as special campaigns and events. Lead the design of an event collateral, including email marketing assets, signage, menus, nametags and event programs. Participated in client meetings and observed business processes. Designed and executed graphics for email campaigns, print advertisements, social media, and event collateral.

 

Created client work such as print promotional material, social media posts, and in-house materials. Participated in a variety of meetings across multiple disciplines within the company from content development, client brand exploration, and internal initiatives. Worked on nationally recognized client campaigns as well as local businesses.

I spent time on the in-house team as well as the client side of the agency, which primarily served pharmaceutical clients. Within the in-house team I produced graphics for internal initiatives like events, awards, iconography for internal portal, and agency award packages. I participated in the early stages of development of the company’s website relaunch including a brand audit. On the client side, I executed design edits and updates for pharmaceutical web campaigns. Developed graphics for social media, email campaigns. Developed a visual brand for a local non-profit. Contributed to in-house marketing initiatives.
